The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was founded February 12, 1909 and is the largest civil rights organization. It was formed partly in response to the practice of lynchings and a race riot in Springfield, Illinois. The goal of the NAACP was to secure the rights for the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment for all people. Also to remove barriers of racial discrimination. It was founded by a group of white liberals, but the original committee involved a few african-americans including W.E.B. Du Bois , Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell, and Mary Talbert.
The NAACP was crucial in the Anti Lynching campaign. They released a report Thirty Years of Lynching in the United States,1889-1919 which included data on all the lynchings carried out through these years.

Lynching became one of the first focuses for the NAACP. They saw it for what is was, a violent act against innocent people, rather than justifying it like most of America at the time. One of their first public events was an anti-lynching protest. It was a Silent Protest Parade where over 10,000 African-Americans marched down Fifth Avenue of New York City. This Silent March helped the NAACP gain a lot of attention and support for their activism.
